They made the course slightly longer the week of June 16th. They redirected it to the edge of the big field at the 2 mile marker instead of cutting off the 10 or so feet around the perimeter.
I missed updating a few weeks. I will find them next year and fill in the missing times.
The last week was my fastest time in a lot of years. By a long time. I love when everything clicks. I think the additional company helped.
Hiking/Backpacking
Plans for the M&M trail this summer are in progress.
Notch and Mt. Toby and have been thoroughly explored.
Mt. Toby is filled with beautiful waterfalls and beautiful crags and cliffs. The view from the top is spectacular, made even more so by the presence of the fire tower. Mt. Norwottuck is also beautiful, and while there is more to do there seems slightly less awe-inspiring.
I shall soon begin Mt. Tom.
Caving
NCC opened up their caves... working on permission for Knox and crossbones. They have fantastic vertical and come cool formations...
Mt. Toby has a cool little hole known as the Ice Caves. I cannot bring myself to call it a full cave, but definitions aside it is one of the coolest little holes I have poked my head into. Plans are in progress to rappel them in training for the bigger ones.
Baker's Quarry Cave in Lanesboro has been found and conquered. Small, short, but very cool. I have also identified Disappearing Brook and Elephant's Den, but have not entered due to water. I am currently seeking out Found and Convention. I will find them.
I have discovered the Pettibone Falls cave and Farnham's tunnel. Pettibone is of special magnificience, being the birthplace of the NSS. Farnham's tunnel is neat, I think it will be a wonderful introduction into caving.
Sports
2009 Boston Marathon: 4 hours, 45 minutes. Down about 20 minutes from the previous year.
Felt much better than last year. Muscles hurt a little more, but bones hurt much less. Knees were not a problem. Two days after, it feels like I just went for a long run. So much better than the aching, debilitating pain of the previous year.
Dusted off the ol' Iron Horse. After all this time, the old girl still gallops like the wind on a warm spring morning. Took it on approximately a 12 mile bike ride and had no problems. I definitely need a lot of work on my biking endurance. The problem is not in the legs, but with the comfort level. I am sure I will get used to it again in time though.
Signed up and ready to go for a traithalon on June 21st.
Half mile swim, 12 mile bike, 5K run.
It went well. 10th in my division, about 1 hour 32 minutes.
2009 Josh: Went well. 57 on canoe. Dad surrendered his stern man position to me. It seemed to help.
Tully Lake triathalon on Saturday. I am stern and runner. It should be good. It might snow!!
